Julie A. Paul, CNM, CNP

Nurse Midwife

South Shore Health

Julie has been working at South Shore Hospital, part of South Shore Health, since 2006.  She is the Director of the Perinatal Behavioral Health Program. Julie led the creation of a unique and innovative early labor management (ELM) program, the centerpiece of which is an early labor lounge. The project originally was meant to be a local project to promote spontaneous progress in labor, using standardized procedures, in order to reduce the numbers of women having Cesarean sections.

 

Julie is working with Ariadne Labs as the Co-Team Leader on the Team Birth project. Her professional interests include, providing safe care for women with mental illness or substance use during pregnancy and postpartum, safeguarding birth options for women by protecting the birth process, educating women about childbirth and being able to advocate for themselves, and lowering the cesarean birth rate.
